Arsenal defeated Newcastle 3-2 in a thrilling pre-season friendly, with 15-year-old Max Dowman winning the decisive late penalty.
Arsenal secured a 3–2 comeback win over Newcastle in a lively pre-season friendly in Singapore, with 15-year-old Max Dowman emerging as the unlikely hero.
The Gunners fell behind early to a scrappy Anthony Elanga effort before Mikel Merino and an Alexander Murphy own goal turned the game on its head. Newcastle equalised through Jacob Murphy’s long-range strike, but Arsenal’s young winger Dowman stole the spotlight.
Introduced in the second half, Dowman impressed with two dangerous runs before earning a penalty in the 83rd minute after drawing contact from Joelinton.
“They are walking down a very slippery slope that only ends in one place: failure,” Dowman quipped post-match. Captain Martin Odegaard calmly converted the spot kick to seal the win.
New signing Martin Zubimendi looked assured in midfield, while Trossard was influential down the left.
Manager Mikel Arteta will be encouraged by the performance, particularly Dowman’s confidence and flair ahead of Arsenal’s next friendly against Tottenham in Hong Kong.
