A soldier was shot dead at a Lagos checkpoint after a mentally unstable man grabbed his rifle.
A tragic incident occurred on Monday at a military checkpoint in Lagos State, where a soldier was shot dead after a mentally unstable man seized his rifle. The attack happened in the Agbowa community along the Ikorodu expressway. A police source told SAHARA REPORTERS that “an insane man snatched a military man’s rifle and shot him dead at a check point. It happened at Adeogun bridge in Agbowa.”
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful as calls were neither answered nor returned.
The development comes barely hours after SaharaReporters also reported the killing of a senior Nigerian Army officer, Brigadier General M. Uba, by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State. The terrorists reportedly intercepted and tracked his location along the Damboa–Biu axis shortly after he participated in a successful joint air–ground operation against insurgents.
The senior officer had earlier communicated with his superiors, assuring them he was safe and regrouping with his team. However, that communication may have inadvertently revealed his coordinates to the attackers. He was captured alive, interrogated briefly, and then executed, the report added.
Both incidents have heightened concerns about security vulnerabilities facing military personnel across the country.
