A mentally unstable 19-year-old in Ondo State stabbed an NSCDC officer to death while being restrained.
Tragedy struck the Oba Ile community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Thursday when a 19-year-old man, described as mentally unstable, stabbed a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer to death, according to PUNCH. The incident occurred during an attempt to restrain the teenager after a distress call from his mother.
A resident who witnessed the event said, “When the boy started misbehaving this morning, his mother invited two civil defence officers to help her chain him. Meanwhile, in the process of chaining him, he overpowered the civil defence man and removed the knife from the man and stabbed him. But, it was unfortunate that the civil defence man died in spite that he was with a gun when the incident happened.”
The state NSCDC spokesman, Daniel Aidamenbor, described the incident as “unfortunate,” adding that the officer was being taken to a treatment facility when the attack occurred. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the officer “died while receiving treatment at the hospital” from injuries sustained during the struggle.
