WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to build custom AI chatbots directly within the app, with no coding required.
The feature, called AI Studio, is currently available to a limited number of beta users on iOS and Android, according to a report from 9to5Mac.
AI Studio offers step-by-step guidance for creating a chatbot. Users can assign a role—such as study coach, travel assistant, or motivational companion—and then choose the bot’s personality and tone, including options like “calm and thoughtful” or “energetic and funny.”
Users can also create a visual avatar for the chatbot, either by editing suggestions or generating one from a text prompt.
Once built, each chatbot is private by default but can be shared via a link.
This move follows similar tools like OpenAI’s Custom GPTs and Google’s Gemini Gems.
A WhatsApp user noted, “I am waiting to see if it can be used in groups for disputes and discussions as a mediator or a counselor.”
