“If we don’t make it to the World Cup, the whole board of the NFF needs to go,” Mikel Obi warned.

Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has said the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board should resign if the country fails to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on his Obi One Podcast on Thursday, the ex-Chelsea midfielder described another potential miss as catastrophic.

“I feel for the people of my country. For the second time running, we’re not going to qualify for the World Cup. Does anything change if you don’t? Oh, man. It has to,” he said.

Mikel stressed that accountability lies at the top. “If we don’t make it to the World Cup, I just think the whole board of the NFF needs to go,” he declared.

The 2013 AFCON winner added that Nigerian players are not given the right motivation when returning for national duty. Despite his criticism, he urged fans to keep supporting the team, noting qualification hopes remain alive with two matches left.
