Divers and witnesses from Nova Scotia’s 1960s UFO encounters described being silenced after allegedly spotting crafts underwater, with researchers saying the mystery remains unsolved.
On October 4, 1967, residents of Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia, reported orange lights plunging into the Atlantic, initially thought to be a plane crash. Authorities found only strange yellow foam, but decades later, divers revealed they had been sworn to secrecy after allegedly seeing UFOs on the seabed during a nearby NATO minesweeping exercise.
Researcher Chris Styles documented testimonies in his book Sweep Clear 5, quoting Canadian divers who claimed the objects were “occupied” and that one appeared damaged. Records suggested U.S. ships even reached DEFCON 1 during the incident. While the “Shelburne” case predates Shag Harbour and may not be directly connected, Styles says veterans were emotional when recounting what they saw.
The events remain unexplained, fueling speculation about unidentified submerged objects.
