Geoffrey Nnaji resigned as Minister amid certificate forgery allegations after a court cleared UNN to release his academic records.

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet amid allegations of certificate forgery and questions over his academic qualifications.

Nnaji, appointed in August 2023, announced his resignation in a letter to the President on Tuesday, thanking him for the opportunity to serve.

Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following some allegations against him… He resigned today in a letter thanking the President for allowing him to serve Nigeria.”

Nnaji insisted he was being blackmailed by political opponents.

His resignation followed a Federal High Court ruling in Enugu allowing the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to release his academic records after a freedom of information request — a decision that heightened public scrutiny over the forgery allegations.
