Science and Technology Minister Uche Nnaji has admitted UNN never issued him a degree, confirming long-standing allegations that he forged his credentials.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has admitted that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), never issued him a degree certificate, validating PREMIUM TIMES’ two-year investigation that revealed he forged the credentials he submitted for his ministerial appointment.
In court filings before the Federal High Court in Abuja, Mr Nnaji acknowledged that although he was admitted in 1981 to study Microbiology/Biochemistry and claimed to have “graduated” in 1985, the university never gave him a certificate. This admission contradicts the documents he presented to President Bola Tinubu, the Senate, and other government bodies, including a forged NYSC certificate.
UNN officials have since confirmed that Mr Nnaji did not complete his studies and was never awarded a degree. The institution described a previous letter affirming his graduation as a “mistake” or an attempt at cover-up.
By admitting UNN never issued him a degree, Mr Nnaji has effectively confessed to forgery, raising key questions about how he obtained the certificate submitted to Nigerian authorities and how he qualified for NYSC without a valid degree.
Despite repeated enquiries, Mr Nnaji has refused to comment publicly on the revelations.
