Minister Nnaji resigned after UNN and NYSC disowned the certificates linked to him, with President Tinubu accepting his resignation amid mounting allegations.

Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from the Federal Executive Council following controversies surrounding his academic qualifications.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, saying, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following some allegations against him.”

Nnaji’s resignation comes after investigations by PREMIUM TIMES revealed that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), had disowned the Bachelor of Science degree in his possession. According to UNN Vice-Chancellor Simon U. Ortuanya, although Nnaji was admitted in 1981, he did not complete his studies and was never issued a certificate.

The report also stated that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) could not authenticate the certificate of national service presented by the former minister. Nnaji, in his resignation letter, alleged he had been a target of political blackmail.
