Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu‑Ojukwu, has called on Nigerians in the diaspora to invest in the country’s healthcare sector to help reduce medical tourism and improve local services. Speaking at the 16th Annual Mbaise USA Convention in Minnesota, she urged Nigerians abroad “not to see the U.S. and Europe as their permanent homes, rather take proactive measures in replicating infrastructure they enjoyed in their places of residence abroad at their respective home communities in Nigeria.”

She also inaugurated the Medville Medical City project in Imo State, describing it as a “legacy project” that will put Mbaise and Nigeria on the global medical map. The Minister stressed that channeling skills, resources, and innovation acquired abroad will “foster a cycle of growth that benefits both present and future generations.” She emphasized that diaspora investment should not be limited to finances but also include leveraging networks and knowledge to transform healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
