Police say the Minneapolis Catholic school shooter killed two children and 18 others after a breakup, leaving behind disturbing online posts.

Police say Robin Westman, who opened fire at a Minneapolis Catholic school Mass on Wednesday, killing two children and injuring 18 others, had recently suffered a breakup and was staying with a friend. Authorities confirmed Westman, 20, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the attack, wearing tactical gear and carrying two legally purchased rifles.

Investigators seized a tactical vest, computer drives, and documents from his father’s home. Westman, formerly Robert Paul Westman, changed names in 2019. His mother, Mary Grace Westman, who worked at Annunciation Catholic Church, has not cooperated with investigators.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara said Westman posted disturbing writings and videos before the shooting. “It appeared to show him at the scene and included some disturbing writing,” O’Hara said.

Court records and past police reports indicate a history of mental health concerns, though Westman had no criminal record. Federal authorities are continuing investigations in Minnesota and Florida.
