A Christian missionary father and daughter were killed when their plane crashed in Coral Springs while en route to deliver hurricane relief to Jamaica.
A Christian missionary father and his daughter died Monday morning when their small plane crashed in a residential area of Coral Springs while heading to Jamaica on a hurricane relief mission, according to a report from the THE WASHINGTON TIMES.
The victims were identified by the ministry organization Ignite the Fire as founder Alexander Wurm, 53, and his daughter Serena Wurm, 22. The group said the pair were transporting humanitarian aid when the Beechcraft King Air plane went down in a pond, narrowly missing nearby homes. Authorities confirmed no other victims had been reported as of Tuesday morning.
“Together, their final journey embodied selflessness and courage, reminding us of the power of service and love,” Ignite the Fire wrote on social media. “Rest in peace, Alexander and Serena — your light endures in all whose lives you changed.”
The turboprop aircraft took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport at approximately 10:14 a.m., with police and fire rescue arriving within five minutes. Broward County, home to a large Caribbean American community, has mobilized to collect relief supplies following Hurricane Melissa, which struck Jamaica on Oct. 28 as a Category 5 storm and caused widespread damage across the Caribbean.
Ignite the Fire describes its mission as “dedicated to empowering youth through missions and evangelism across the Caribbean,” highlighting the Wurms’ commitment to humanitarian and faith-driven work.
