“We call on the Federal Government, the National Human Rights Commission, and the International Community to intervene.”

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has urged President Bola Tinubu to enhance security for pastoralist communities and end discriminatory practices against them. In a statement on Friday, MACBAN’s National Secretary-General, Alhaji Bello Gotomo, called for concrete measures to address ethnic profiling and unjust treatment of herders.

“The Nigerian Government must ensure accountability, justice, and protection for all citizens regardless of ethnicity,” Gotomo stated. He condemned the alleged unlawful arrests and harassment of pastoralists in Kogi State, urging the Federal Government and human rights bodies to intervene swiftly.

MACBAN has appealed to President Tinubu to direct security agencies to safeguard pastoralists, citing rising cases of stigmatization and rights abuses. Gotomo specifically highlighted the mistreatment of herders in Kogi’s Opere Market, calling for urgent action.
