Daily Star

The Daily Star is celebrating their Liz Truss-inspired iceberg lettuce, which it is calling “an iconic piece of history that will be preserved for generations to come”.

The paper broadcast a livestream of the decaying leafy plant in 2022, and asked whether the then-prime minister would be able to outlast the lettuce. She did not.

Now the video has been entered into the BFI National Archive.

The Times

The Times reports on comments from a Bulgarian minister, who claims Russian spies are helping criminal gangs involved in people smuggling by identifying weaknesses in the EU’s external borders.

Their main story is police are investigating claims that Prince Andrew asked a personal protection officer to research information about Virginia Giuffre, which could be used to smear her. He has denied any wrongdoing.

Financial Times

Donald Trump’s White House meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday was described as “volatile” and it descended into a “shouting match”, writes the Financial Times.

The newspaper says its sources claimed the US president was “cursing all the time” and insisted the Ukrainian leader surrender the entire Donbas region to Russia as part of a peace deal.

The story goes on to suggest Mr Trump was repeating talking points Vladimir Putin had made to him a day earlier in a phone call.

The Daily Telegraph

Friday’s meeting between the US and Ukrainian presidents at the White House descended into a “shouting match”, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper, which quotes details from a Financial Times story, says Donald Trump demanded that Volodymyr Zelenskyy surrender the Donetsk region to Russia as part of peace terms. 

The Sun

The Sun suggests the latest revelations about Prince Andrew call into question his claims that he never met Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault.

It is alleged that he gave a royal protection officer her date of birth and social security number to “dig up dirt” on her.

The Metropolitan police is investigating the allegations. Andrew denies any wrongdoing.

Daily Mirror

Ongoing stories about Prince Andrew are framed as a “scandal with no end” by the Daily Mirror.

It says police are examining claims he asked a police officer to help with an attempted smear campaign against Virginia Giuffre in 2011, who later accused him of sexual assault.

Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing.

The i Paper

Israel has launched a series of strikes in Gaza after claiming Hamas attacked its forces, writes The i Paper.

Hamas’ armed wing denies knowledge about the attacks and said it remains committed to the ceasefire agreement – which the newspaper suggests is now “in peril”.

The Guardian

The Guardian describes an escalation between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which the newspaper says poses a threat to the ceasefire agreement.

Two Israeli soldiers were killed while dozens of Palestinians also died in retaliatory airstrikes.

It also pictures the aftermath of what it calls a “brazen” heist at the Louvre, in which priceless Napoleonic jewels were stolen.

Metro

The scandal engulfing Prince Andrew is “deepening”, according to the Metro.

The family of the late Virginia Giuffre has called for the royal to lose his title of prince, after relinquishing his Duke of York title on Friday.

The newspaper also refers to reports about Andrew allegedly asking a royal bodyguard to “dig up dirt” on Ms Giuffre.

Andrew has always denied sexually assaulting Ms Guiffre.

The Independent

The Independent pictures the Louvre in Paris, where thieves used an extendable ladder mounted on the back of a truck to break into the museum and steal priceless jewels.

Its main story is about a warning from the Prison Officers’ Association about “out of control” repair costs at the country’s jails.
