Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has warned of more defections from the PDP, including governors and lawmakers, if the party fails to resolve its internal crisis.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has warned that more defections loom within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), predicting the exit of additional governors and lawmakers.
In an interview with Arise TV, Saraki, who chairs the PDP reconciliation and convention committee, said, “We haven’t seen the worst of the defections for PDP. We would likely see one or two governors defect and possibly some senators as well.”
He acknowledged the party’s internal challenges but emphasised that grassroots support remains strong.
“When you go round the country… the party is still very strong in the grassroots,” Saraki stated.
DAILY NIGERIAN earlier reported that Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom’s Umo Eno recently defected to the APC, alongside several federal lawmakers.
Saraki urged urgent reforms, noting, “We are lucky this is not happening late in 2026… we have time to recover and regroup.”
He described the situation as a low point for the 26-year-old party, but not beyond redemption.
