Elon Musk has deleted a tweet alleging former ally Donald Trump was “in the Epstein files,” amid an escalating feud between the tech billionaire and the US president.
The post, made Thursday during a row over Trump’s flagship spending Bill, followed Musk’s resignation as head of the Department of Government Efficiency.
Trump responded by suggesting Musk was angry over lost tax breaks and a NASA appointment. “He never had a problem until right after he left,” Trump said.
Musk fired back: “Without me, Trump would have lost the election… Such ingratitude.”
He then tweeted about Trump and Epstein—without providing evidence. By Saturday, the post was deleted.
The phrase “Epstein files” refers to material related to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in 2019.
As tensions rose, Musk threatened to decommission SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft, prompting Trump to consider canceling federal contracts.
Tesla shares fell 14.3% Thursday. Musk later reversed his Dragon decision and is now promoting a new political party.
