Five people, including three suspected internet fraudsters, died in a tragic accident during an illegal N30,000 car race in Ipara, Remo, Ogun State. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Monday when one participant lost control and crashed into a roadside shop, killing two bystanders instantly.
A community source revealed: “The accident happened yesterday afternoon. Some guys suspected to be Yahoo boys organised a car racing contest with a N30,000 wager. One of the cars lost control and rammed into a shop.” Videos from the scene showed lifeless bodies and a damaged building where the car had crashed.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for Ogun State Traffic Agency (TRACE), confirmed the fatalities: “The driver, Akeem Ashiru, and Shina Badejo died at the scene.” Two other occupants later died in hospitals.
The crash adds to recent road tragedies in Ogun State, following another incident where a motorcycle passenger was crushed by a truck in Abeokuta. Authorities urge caution as investigations continue.
