Five people, including three suspected internet fraudsters and two residents, died on Monday in Ipara, Remo, Ogun State, during a N30,000 car race bet.
A community source told PUNCH Metro the crash occurred around 2 p.m. when one racer lost control and rammed into a roadside shop, killing two bystanders instantly. The driver and two other occupants were trapped and later taken to hospitals with severe injuries.

Videos circulating on social media showed lifeless bodies, the wrecked building, and trapped victims, with onlookers wailing.

Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the crash, saying it involved an unregistered Lexus. “The driver, Akeem Ashiru, and Shina Badejo died at the scene,” he said, adding that two other occupants later died in hospital.

The accident reportedly occurred at high speed near the Owolowo area while heading towards Fidiwo.

This follows another fatal crash in Abeokuta involving a truck and motorcycle passenger.
