NAFDAC DG warned that the influencer’s actions may violate the Cybercrime Act, saying law enforcement would determine if charges are appropriate.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has accused popular social media influencer ‘VeryDarkMan’ of inciting traders at Onitsha Bridge Head Market and colluding with fake drug dealers to undermine regulatory enforcement.

In a trending video, the influencer was seen among protesting traders claiming NAFDAC demanded between ₦500,000 and ₦700,000 before reopening shops closed for selling fake drugs.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said, “The market has been reopened on the 9th of March 2025… over 2,500 traders with 3,500 shops have resumed their normal activity.”

She added that only shops linked to banned narcotics remain shut. “The cartel, along with their co-conspirators, are… creating incitements to divert attention from the real issues,” Adeyeye stated.

She warned that the influencer’s actions may violate the Cybercrime Act, saying law enforcement would determine if charges are appropriate.

The agency reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health.
