NAFDAC has withdrawn 101 drugs, including widely used medicines like Flagyl and Artemether-Lumefantrine, citing voluntary withdrawals, suspensions, and cancellations.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has delisted 101 drugs from circulation in Nigeria. The agency announced on Tuesday that the affected products are no longer permitted for manufacturing, importation, exportation, distribution, advertisement, sale, or use.

According to NAFDAC, some of the drugs were withdrawn voluntarily at the request of market authorization holders, while others were suspended or outrightly cancelled. “This is to inform the general public that the following products are approved for withdrawal, suspension and cancellation by NAFDAC. They are therefore no longer permitted for manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, advertisement, sale and use within Nigeria,” the agency stated.

The delisted medicines cut across several categories, including antimalarials, antibiotics, vaccines, insulin, inhalers, eye drops, and diabetes treatments. Among them are Flagyl, Artemether-Lumefantrine, Penicillin G Sodium Sandoz, and Elisca eye drops. NAFDAC clarified that suspensions apply when conditions for registration are unmet, while cancellations follow licence revocation.
