NAFDAC has raised alarm over some Dove soap and deodorant products banned by the EU, warning they may harm the reproductive system and unborn children.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert warning Nigerians against using certain Dove cosmetic products recently banned by the European Union.

According to NAFDAC Alert No. 018/2025, items such as Dove Exfoliating Hand Soap (100g) and Dove Deodorant Go Fresh 50ml were found to contain BMHCA — a chemical linked to reproductive harm, fetal risks, and skin sensitization.

“These products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation,” NAFDAC said, urging Nigerians to avoid and report any adverse reactions.

The affected items, produced in Italy and the UK, are not registered in Nigeria. NAFDAC also reminded the public that importation of soaps is banned in Nigeria and such products are not eligible for foreign exchange support.

Distributors and consumers were advised to submit any stock to NAFDAC offices.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to public health and ongoing surveillance of cosmetic imports.
