NARD slams Barau Dikko Hospital over the sudden dismissal of resident doctors.
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has condemned the dismissal of its members by the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna. The hospital’s management, in letters signed by Director of Administration Iliyasu Yusuf, claimed the doctors exceeded their training duration without academic progress.
Dr. Abbas Ajayi, NARD North-West Zonal leader, described the move as “unwarranted and unexpected,” alleging systemic delays. “People will spend additional years in training for no fault of theirs,” he said.
Dr. Josiah Yakubu, hospital chapter chairman, said, “Six doctors have received termination letters. From February to date, five others resigned for better offers elsewhere.”
He cited delays in mandatory postings and inadequate staffing as major setbacks. “We are just asking the government to hear us and meet our needs,” Yakubu stated.
In response, State Health Commissioner Hajiya Umma Ahmed confirmed, “An agreement has just been reached. They will be immediately reinstated.”
