NCAA accused Qatar Airways of ignoring directives and mistreating Nigerian passengers, warning of sanctions.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has accused Qatar Airways of violating consumer protection laws and ignoring official directives.

Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, disclosed on Friday via his X handle that the airline repeatedly failed to comply with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.

He cited the case of a Nigerian passenger travelling with his wife on a Lagos–Doha–U.S. route who was accused of misconduct by cabin crew only after arrival in Doha. The passenger was arrested, detained for 18 hours, fined, and forced to sign a document in Arabic. Qatar Airways later refused to fly him onward, compelling him to buy another ticket.

Achimugu said the airline’s country manager routinely evades NCAA meetings and has ignored official determinations and letters of investigation. He warned: “This behavior stops now… we will apply stiff penalties against airlines that fail to comply.”
