If she had just quietly complied, then there would have been no such situation.
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has provided details regarding the airport incident involving Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmason. In an interview with Daily Post, he outlined the passenger’s refusal to turn off her phone before departure, her mid-air misconduct, and the ensuing altercation upon landing .
According to Achimugu, Emmason continued to misbehave mid-flight—“giving the middle finger to other passengers and to the cabin crew.” After landing in Lagos, she emerged from seat 14F unexpectedly, slapped a flight attendant, and resisted removal, forcing security to intervene .
Video footage showed her top torn and body exposed during the struggle, which Achimugu defended as a consequence of her “struggling” and aggressive behaviour, including an attempt to wield a fire extinguisher. He noted, “If she had just quietly complied… then there would have been no such situation” .
Achimugu reiterated that the NCAA lacks prosecutorial powers and is not involved in Emmason’s court proceedings. He emphasized that the authority focuses on preventive education, penalties such as no-fly listings, and the importance of compliance with safety rules: “If they tell you to turn off your phone, turn it off” .
