NDLEA has ordered a probe into the sudden death of Cross River commander Ogbonna Uzoma, who was found lifeless in a Calabar hotel room.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched an investigation into the sudden death of its Cross River State commander of narcotics, Ogbonna Uzoma, who was found lifeless in a hotel room in Calabar.

NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, announced the probe on Friday while attending a Federal Ministry of Justice retreat for agency heads in Maiduguri. According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, Marwa directed the Zonal Commander, Zone 14, ACGN Mathew Ewah, to relocate to Calabar to support police inquiries into the case.

Uzoma, who resumed duty in Cross River on August 18, 2025, had been staying in a hotel pending arrangements for permanent accommodation. “He was scheduled to lead his officers for engagements at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, but could not be reached earlier that morning,” Marwa said.

Hotel staff eventually accessed his room through the ceiling and found him unresponsive. Police later visited the scene, and investigations are ongoing.

Marwa described Uzoma’s death as painful, extending condolences to his family and praying for his repose.
