NDLEA says it has arrested over 67,000 suspects, including 95 drug barons, in less than five years.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it arrested 67,345 suspects, including 95 drug barons, and seized over 11.2 million kilogrammes of illicit drugs in the last 54 months.
Chairman Buba Marwa disclosed this in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun, at a seminar organised by the Ijebu-Ode Council of Olorituns.
“In the past 54 months, we arrested 67,345 traffickers, including 95 barons. About 12,415 are serving jail terms,” Marwa said, noting some were businesspeople, socialites, and officials.
He said the agency destroyed 1,572 hectares of cannabis farms and treated 27,187 drug users in 30 centres nationwide.
The NDLEA also held 11,584 sensitisation lectures in schools, communities, workplaces, and worship centres, in addition to counselling thousands through its toll-free helpline.
Marwa urged grassroots security cooperation, moral revival, and community vigilance to curb drug abuse and cultism.
He commended the council’s commitment to youth development and urged others to emulate its
initiative.
