Senator Ali Ndume has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against dismissing ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s influence, stating the latter remains deeply revered in Northern Nigeria despite being out of office. Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Ndume noted Buhari’s “occultic” grassroots appeal persists even as his formal political clout wanes, saying: “You can’t write him off especially with the Northern masses.”
The lawmaker’s remarks followed Atiku Abubakar’s recent visit to Buhari in Kaduna, with Ndume revealing plans for his own meeting. While acknowledging Buhari’s diminished official power post-presidency, he stressed: “The followership of Buhari has been occultic. You cannot explain it,” underscoring the symbolic weight Buhari still carries in the region.
