NEMA reports 231 deaths, 114 missing, and over 315,000 people affected by floods across 25 states in 2025.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has disclosed that no fewer than 231 Nigerians lost their lives, while 114 others remain missing, following devastating floods that swept through 86 local government areas across 25 states this year.

According to figures from NEMA’s 2025 Flood Dashboard, the disaster affected 315,762 people, displaced 113,367, and left 607 with varying degrees of injuries. The floods also damaged 40,493 houses nationwide.

Breakdown of those affected showed 60,408 men, 100,079 women, 163,683 children, 11,592 elderly people, and 2,265 persons with disabilities.

Lagos State recorded the highest number of affected persons with 52,013, followed closely by Adamawa with 51,713 and Anambra with 46,233. Other impacted states include Imo (29,242), Taraba (26,722), Rivers (22,345), Delta (14,057), Abia (11,907), Borno (8,164), and Kaduna (7,334).

The agency said the statistics provide insight into the scale of destruction and vulnerability as climate-related disasters continue to threaten lives and livelihoods across Nigeria.
