“These DisCos have been fined over N628 million and are required to issue credit adjustments to the affected customers by May 15, 2025,” the Commission said.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has imposed a fine of over N628 million on eight electricity distribution companies for violating energy cap regulations.
In a statement on Thursday, NERC said the affected DisCos — Abuja, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola — failed to comply with the monthly energy caps for unmetered customers between July and September 2024.
“These DisCos have been fined over N628 million and are required to issue credit adjustments to the affected customers by May 15, 2025,” the Commission said.
NERC described the move as part of its firm stance on regulatory compliance and consumer protection within the electricity industry.
The Commission’s action aims to ensure that unmetered customers are not overbilled, urging all DisCos to adhere strictly to operational guidelines and protect consumer rights.
This is the latest in a series of measures by NERC to address unfair billing practices and strengthen public trust in the sector.
