Netanyahu has alleged that Iran was behind two assassination attempts on former U.S. President.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has alleged that Iran was behind two assassination attempts on former U.S. President Donald Trump in 2024. In a Fox News interview aired Sunday, Netanyahu linked Iran to attacks on Trump as part of an effort to justify Israeli strikes against the country.
“These people who chant, death to America, tried to assassinate President Trump twice,” Netanyahu said. “Do you want these people to have nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them to your cities?”
Pressed by Fox anchor Bret Baier, Netanyahu said Iran acted “through proxies” and “through their intel,” claiming, “They want to kill him.”
The Biden DOJ had earlier charged an Iranian operative in a separate 2023 assassination plot against Trump. U.S. officials have not linked Iran to the 2024 attempts, which involved a shooting in Butler, PA, and a man found with a rifle near Trump’s Florida golf course. Iran’s president has denied involvement.
