New genetic study reignites debate over the real-life existence of Adam and Eve

“Adam plausibly lived sometime between around 1 million years ago to 750,000 years ago,” Professor William Lane Craig says.

Scientists are revisiting the age-old debate over Adam and Eve, with new findings suggesting the biblical pair may have real historical counterparts. While many dismiss Genesis as allegory, researchers are uncovering evidence that parts of the story may align with scientific truths.

“Adam and Eve may plausibly be identified as belonging to the last common ancestor of Homo Sapiens and Neanderthals,” said Professor William Lane Craig. “Adam plausibly lived sometime between around 1 million years ago to 750,000 years ago.”

Mesopotamia — between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers — is seen as a potential location of Eden, backed by both biblical and archaeological evidence.

Meanwhile, genetic studies show all humans share ancestry with ‘Mitochondrial Eve’ and ‘Y-chromosome Adam,’ though these individuals may not have lived at the same time.

Dr. Joshua Swamidass adds: “Many individuals are each individually ancestors of ‘all the living’,” suggesting science and scripture may not be mutually exclusive when it comes to humanity’s origin.
