New research warns women face health risk when weekly sex drops in relationships

New study reveals that women who have sex weekly are far more satisfied in their relationships than those who don’t.

Women who have sex at least once a week are significantly happier in their relationships, a new study reveals. Researchers found that 85% of women engaging in weekly sex reported being “sexually satisfied,” compared to 66% who had monthly sex. Among those who had sex less frequently, satisfaction dropped to just 17%.

Alexandra Janssen, a researcher at the University of Manchester and author of the study, said: “Women having sex less than once a week were far less likely to be satisfied in their sexual relationships.”

Her study, published in the International Journal of Sexual Health, surveyed 483 heterosexual women in New Zealand. It also found that women who rated sex as “very important” and experienced regular orgasms reported higher satisfaction.

Janssen added: “It seems unlikely that low self-rated importance of sex causes low sexual satisfaction.”

YouGov figures show that 60% of Britons have sex less than once a week. Studies also link regular sex to better health, lower stress, and youthful appearance.
