NiDCOM has praised U.S.-based Nigerian doctor, Philip Ozuah, for donating $1 million to the University of Ibadan’s medical college to ease student accommodation challenges.
The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has commended U.S.-based Nigerian doctor, Dr. Philip Ozuah, for his $1 million (₦1.6 billion) donation to the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI). The donation funded the construction of six student hostel blocks, alleviating major accommodation challenges.
Speaking at the commissioning in Ibadan, Dabiri-Erewa described the gesture as “a beacon of hope and patriotism,” and urged more diaspora Nigerians to emulate such support for Nigeria’s education and health sectors.
“Diaspora engagement is a game changer,” she said, adding that over 10 hospitals have been built by diaspora doctors in the past four years, including the African Medical Centre of Excellence in Abuja.
She emphasized the potential to curb medical tourism if coordinated efforts harness the skills of health professionals at home and abroad, calling for stronger collaboration to establish world-class healthcare institutions in Nigeria.
