The Niger State Government has conducted a mass burial for victims of the Essan tanker explosion, which killed 39 people, and donated N10 million in medical support to survivors.
The Niger State Government has conducted a mass burial for victims of the recent tanker explosion that claimed at least 39 lives and injured 60 others in the Essan community of Katcha Local Government Area.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the government also donated medical supplies worth N10 million to hospitals treating survivors.
According to him, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Dr. Murtala Bagana, led a delegation to the scene to assess the situation. “The state government explained that out of the about 50 injured persons, some are receiving medical attention for burns and inhalation-related injuries at the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, and other hospitals,” he said.
Ibrahim added that a prayer session accompanied the mass burial while the government called for urgent repair of dilapidated federal roads linked to the incident.
He warned residents against scooping fuel from accident scenes and urged the Federal Government to rehabilitate the Jebba-Mokwa-Bida-Agaie-Lapai-Lambata road to prevent similar tragedies.
Normalcy, he said, has returned to the affected community as the state reaffirmed its commitment to residents’ safety.
