Police say the suspects, aged between four and 10, attacked two herders returning from grazing, leading to the death of one victim.
Some parents in Niger State have surrendered their children to the police over the alleged killing of a 10-year-old herder, Abubakar Lawal, in Karaku community, Rafi Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident on Friday, describing it as a suspected case of culpable homicide.
Abiodun said the attack occurred on August 11 when Lawal and another boy, Umar, 9, were returning from grazing sheep. They were reportedly confronted by four minors identified as Aliyu (10), Abdullahi (6), Maryam (10), and Jika (4).
During the altercation, Aliyu allegedly struck the boys with a stick, leaving them with severe injuries. Both were taken to Kagara General Hospital, where Lawal was confirmed dead, while Umar is receiving treatment.
Abiodun disclosed that the children’s parents brought them to the police on August 14. “Further investigation is progress… the case will be transferred to SCID Minna for further action,” he said.
