Nigeria targets ₦160 billion from wheat production, registering 80,000 farmers across 16 states under NAGSAP programme.
The Federal Government has earmarked 40,000 hectares for 2025/2026 dry season wheat production and registered 80,000 farmers, with an expected output valued at about ₦160 billion.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, disclosed this during the official flag-off of the wheat programme under the National Agricultural Growth and Agro Pocket Project (NAGSAP) in Jere, Borno State. He said Borno received 3,000 hectares, supporting 6,000 farmers.
“Under the 2025/2026 season, the programme is targeting 80,000 registered farmers with an expected output value of approximately ₦160 billion,” Kyari stated. He added that Agricultural Extension Agents and Fertiliser and Seed Quality Control Officers would guide farmers and ensure quality inputs.
Governor Babagana Zulum praised the federal support, stating: “Borno State remains steadfast in growing its own food and empowering its people.” He affirmed commitment to modern farming, improved inputs, and irrigation to boost productivity across the state.
