Nigeria defeated Rwanda 1-0 in Uyo to keep their 2026 World Cup hopes alive, moving to third in Group D.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria boosted their chances of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday.

After a goalless and frustrating first half, Nigeria broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when substitute Tolu Arokodare scored just five minutes after replacing Victor Osimhen, who was subbed off earlier.

The win lifted Nigeria to third place in Group D with 10 points from seven matches, behind leaders South Africa on 16 points and Benin Republic on 11 points.

Coach Finidi George’s men will now turn their focus to another crucial fixture as they travel to Johannesburg on Sunday to face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in what could prove decisive for their qualification campaign.

Nigeria must maintain winning momentum to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
