The Federal Ministry of Education has announced initiatives to support Chinese language education across the country, citing economic and diplomatic benefits.

The Nigerian government has announced plans to promote Chinese language learning across the country, aiming to enhance cooperation with China in trade, education, and culture.

Larai Ahmed, Director of Education Support Services at the Federal Ministry of Education, disclosed this during a recent statement reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a partner of TV BRICS.

According to Ahmed, proficiency in Chinese will “help Nigeria deepen cooperation with China in trade, education, and culture.” She noted that “the language helps build diplomatic ties and provides economic advantages, especially in investment and trade.”

Highlighting the global significance of Chinese, Ahmed pointed out that it is the most spoken language in the world, with approximately 1.39 billion speakers.

She further revealed that the Chinese Cultural Centre is now operational in Abuja, with plans underway to establish similar centers across the country to foster greater cultural exchange and language education.

In addition, Ahmed referenced a Bilateral Educational Agreement with China, which enables Nigerian students to study the Chinese language and experience Chinese culture firsthand.
