“Some people are dancing while the ship is sinking. When it finally goes down, it will consume everyone, rich or poor.”
Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described Nigeria as a “crime scene,” saying the country’s dysfunction is forcing citizens to live like internally displaced persons (IDPs). Speaking Tuesday in Abuja at the launch of Obi: The Political Change Agent by Ike Abonyi, Obi said, “All of us must work hard to dismantle this crime scene called a country because there is no way we will be able to survive with this. It is impossible.”
Obi criticized both past and present administrations for failing to prioritize the people, lamenting that “Nigerians are refugees in Chad and Cameroon,” even though the country is not at war. He stressed the urgent need for integrity in public finance and blamed illicit funds for distorting the currency market.
“Some people are dancing while the ship is sinking. When it finally goes down, it will consume everyone, rich or poor,” he warned.
Highlighting transparent governance models in Angola and Ghana, Obi condemned politicians for acquiring “what they do not need,” urging leaders to sacrifice for national stability instead of undermining it.
