Peter Obi, former Anambra governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, has accused the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of illegally demolishing his younger brother’s property in Ikeja, Lagos.
In a statement on Tuesday, Obi claimed his brother’s office was torn down without a valid court judgment or demolition permit. He said, “This morning, my youngest brother called me frantically, informing me that a group of people had invaded his company property in Ikeja, Lagos, and were demolishing the building.”
Obi said he rushed from Abuja to Lagos and demanded legal documents from the demolition team. “They told me they had a court judgment… You would not believe that the court judgment they claim was issued against an unknown person and squatters,” he said. “No one was served. No name was written.”
Obi criticized the process as a blatant act of impunity. “Our country has become lawless,” he stated. “Nigeria is a lawless country. Until we have laws that protect people, nobody will invest in Nigeria.”
The Lagos authorities were unavailable for comment at the time of this report. Obi also alleged ongoing harassment over his 2023 presidential bid, describing it as abuse of his human rights.
