Nigeria safer now than pre-Tinubu era – NSA Ribadu declares despite widespread killings

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, says Nigeria is better secure than it was before the Tinubu-led administration came into power.

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu declared Nigeria safer today than before President Tinubu’s administration, despite recent Boko Haram attacks in Borno. Addressing an APC summit in Abuja, he attributed regional violence to Sahel-based jihadists destabilizing neighbors like Mali and Niger, while praising Nigeria’s resilience: “We’re standing strong and confronting the evil.”

Ribadu disclosed security forces neutralized 13,543 terrorists and recovered 11,000 weapons in two years. He acknowledged inherited challenges—Boko Haram, banditry, IPOB unrest, Niger Delta sabotage, and farmer-herder conflicts—noting 35,000+ Boko Haram victims and 12,000+ banditry casualties. “Substantial progress” includes curbing sit-at-home orders and oil installation attacks.

The NSA linked Borno’s attacks to spillover from the Sahel crisis, which toppled democracies in three nations. While admitting lingering threats, he contrasted Nigeria’s stability with collapsed governance in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, emphasizing coordinated security efforts. The summit highlighted Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” amid ongoing counterterrorism operations.
