Nigeria is leveraging indigenous military technology, particularly locally-made drones, to bolster its fight against terrorism and banditry, according to Bright Echefu, Chairman of EIB Group. During a media tour in Abuja, Echefu highlighted the role of drones like the Damisa Combat Drone, built entirely in Nigeria, in enhancing surveillance and precision targeting. “Nigeria now has the capacity not to depend on any other country for its security, and that is 100%,” he said.
He credited federal policies favoring local firms for reducing dependence on foreign contractors. “Nigeria doesn’t import drones anymore. Even bombs are produced locally,” Echefu noted. EIB employs over 1,000 Nigerians and collaborates directly with military personnel.
Though demand exceeds capacity, EIB’s efforts are saving foreign exchange and aiding national security. Echefu emphasized the need to support other indigenous manufacturers. “The path the government is following now… must continue,” he said. “I believe they should extend the same to them.”
