Nigerian boxers have condemned the continued delay in repatriating the body of Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, 50 days after he died during a match in Ghana.

Olanrewaju, nicknamed ‘Success,’ collapsed during a March 29 bout in Accra and later died in hospital. Despite a Ghanaian ministerial committee submitting a report two days ago, his body remains unreturned.

“It feels like nobody is fighting for us,” boxer Taiwo Esepo said, expressing anger at the Nigerian authorities’ silence.

UBO Champion Idowu Rasheed, who once fought Olanrewaju, called the delay painful. “His family and wife need to see him and bury him so they can move on.”

Commonwealth medalist Abdul-Afeez Osoba also decried the inaction. “As a Muslim, this is unacceptable. He should have been buried immediately.”

The Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) confirmed a meeting on the matter Monday but offered no timeline for repatriation.

Olanrewaju’s colleagues demand urgent intervention, fearing the lack of response could endanger the morale and dignity of Nigerian fighters abroad.
