Tyrique George made history on Easter Sunday by becoming the youngest Nigeria-eligible player to score for Chelsea in the Premier League. The 19-year-old winger’s equalizer against Fulham broke Carney Chukwuemeka’s short-lived record and highlighted his growing influence in Enzo Maresca’s squad.
Tyrique George has broken the record as the youngest Nigeria-eligible player to score for Chelsea in the Premier League, according to allnigeriasoccer.com.
The talented London-born winger found the net during Chelsea’s Easter Sunday clash against Fulham, aged 19 years and 75 days. His goal surpassed the previous record set by Carney Chukwuemeka, who scored at 19 years and 304 days in a 3-1 loss to West Ham on August 20, 2023.
George, who scored his first senior goal in European competition ten days earlier, equalized five minutes after replacing Nicolas Jackson, drilling the ball into the bottom corner. Pedro Neto scored in stoppage time to seal the Blues’ comeback win.
Only three Nigerian teenagers—George, Chukwuemeka, and Celestine Babayaro—have scored for Chelsea in the Premier League. Babayaro’s 1998 record stood for 25 years before Chukwuemeka broke it.
Promoted to the first team in December 2024, George now has six goal involvements in 20 appearances this season.
