National Grid Collapse Triggers Nationwide Blackout

Nigeria experienced another nationwide blackout on Wednesday after the national grid collapsed around 11:30 am.

Power generation dropped sharply from 2,917.83MW to 1.5MW within an hour, plunging many areas into darkness.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the outage, attributing it to the grid failure.

Restoration efforts have since commenced, with supply gradually returning to some distribution companies.


Tinubu Meets Macron in Paris for Private Talks

French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday hosted Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu at the Elysee Palace in Paris. The two leaders held a private working lunch as part of Tinubu’s ongoing diplomatic engagements in Europe.

The policy, which took effect around September 5, 2025, was disclosed by travel agencies and industry sources.

INEC Raises Alarm Over Early Campaigns by Politicians

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed concern over the growing trend of early campaigns disguised as philanthropy or appreciation events.

Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, INEC National Commissioner, said in Abuja that such practices violate electoral laws.

Chairman Mahmood Yakubu added that while Section 94 of the Electoral Act prohibits premature campaigns, loopholes in the law make enforcement difficult.


Court Denies Bail for Suspected Owo Church Attackers

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday refused bail to five men accused of belonging to the Al-Shabaab terrorist group and orchestrating the 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.
