Gunmen Kill 13 Worshippers in Katsina Mosque Attack
At least 13 worshippers were killed on Tuesday when suspected bandits attacked a mosque in Unguwar Mantau, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims were observing morning prayers when the assailants struck.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers opened fire on worshippers, leaving many others injured.
Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security, Nasir Mu’azu, linked the incident to a reprisal attack following a confrontation in which villagers had previously killed bandits and seized weapons.
Security operatives have since been deployed to restore calm in the area.
NCAA Orders Phones, Devices Switched Off During Flights
The Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has directed that all phones and electronic devices must be switched off during critical stages of flights.
Najomo, who issued the directive at the National Civil Aviation Security Committee meeting in Abuja, said domestic airline operators must update their operations manuals to reflect the new rule and submit them for approval.
He stressed that the move became necessary to curb unruly passenger behaviour and improve safety in the sector.
DSS Opposes Bail for Suspects in Owo Church Attack
The Department of State Services (DSS) has urged a Federal High Court in Abuja not to grant bail to five suspects facing trial over the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.
In a counter-affidavit, the DSS alleged that the men have ties to foreign terrorist groups and may interfere with prosecution witnesses if released.
The court will rule on the bail application at a later date.
Wike Declares Amaechi’s 2027 Ambition ‘Dead on Arrival’
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the 2027 presidential ambition of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Speaking Tuesday, Wike claimed Amaechi would not be considered for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket and also accused former SGF Babachir Lawal of being angry with President Bola Tinubu for overlooking him as running mate in 2023.
Court Freezes Mele Kyari’s Bank Accounts
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the temporary freezing of four Jaiz Bank accounts linked to former Group Managing Director of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, over alleged fraud.
Justice Emeka Nwite issued the order following an ex-parte motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The accounts will remain frozen pending further investigations.
EFCC Questions NAHCON Officials Over Hajj Funds
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has grilled senior officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) over alleged fraud in the 2025 Hajj operations.
Those interrogated include Aliu Abdulrazak, Commissioner of Policy, Personnel and Finance, and Aminu Muhammed, Director of Finance and Accounts.
Investigations are ongoing.
Naira Weakens in Parallel Market, Gains in Official Window
The Naira on Tuesday fell to N1,555 per dollar in the parallel market, down from N1,550 on Monday.
However, it appreciated in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), trading at N1,534.5 per dollar.
