President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday met with the newly appointed Service Chiefs at the State House, Abuja.
The closed-door meeting, which took place three days after their appointments, was the President’s first official engagement with the new military leadership. Discussions reportedly centered on national security priorities and defence coordination.
Those in attendance included the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye.
Kanu Abandons Plan to Call Witnesses in Terrorism Trial
The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Monday abandoned his plan to call witnesses in his terrorism trial.
Kanu told the Federal High Court in Abuja that there was no valid charge against him, arguing that evidence led by the prosecution failed to establish any case requiring his defence. The self-acclaimed separatist leader insisted that the trial lacked legal merit and should be dismissed.
APC Chairman Urges Nigerians to Hold Governors, LG Chairmen Accountable
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged Nigerians to hold governors and local government chairmen accountable for the use of increased monthly allocations.
He said on Monday that all tiers of government now receive triple or quadruple their previous allocations under President Tinubu’s administration. Yilwatda maintained that the rise in federal disbursements must translate into visible improvements in citizens’ welfare.
Kabiru Tanimu Turaki Submits PDP Chairmanship Nomination Forms
Former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to contest the position of National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. The party has scheduled its elective convention for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Turaki, a senior advocate and former chairmanship aspirant, pledged to restore unity and reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oyebanji Clinches APC Governorship Ticket in Ekiti
Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2026 governorship election. He secured the ticket through a consensus arrangement following party negotiations and withdrawals by other aspirants.
The primary, held in Ado-Ekiti, affirmed Oyebanji’s candidacy as delegates from all 177 wards endorsed him to seek a second term in office.
New INEC Chairman Vows to End Pre-Election Court Battles
The newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), has pledged to curb excessive pre-election litigations undermining Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking at the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers’ conference in Abuja, Amupitan described such legal battles as “courtroom warfare” and vowed to promote reforms ensuring internal party discipline and credible candidate selection processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
FG Defends Defamation Case Against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan
The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation has defended its decision to file defamation charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
It stated that her alleged comments against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and ex-Kogi governor Yahaya Bello violated the penal code.
The AGF’s office maintained that the three-count charge bordering on harmful imputation was legally justified, rejecting Akpoti-Uduaghan’s objection to the suit.
Court Sentences Three to Death for Armed Robbery in Ekiti
An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced three individuals to death by hanging for armed robbery.
The convicts — Shadrack Apos (30), Lucky Akpos (33), and Adunola Precious (24) — were found guilty of robbing an 87-year-old woman of ₦186,000 and a wristwatch.
They were convicted on two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery after the prosecution presented overwhelming evidence against them.
Gunmen Attack Bank Customer, Injure Policeman in Ibadan
Gunmen on Monday attacked a man after he withdrew money from a bank in the Osuntokun area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers trailed the victim before dispossessing him of an unspecified sum.
A police officer reportedly sustained injuries during the exchange. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Paul Biya Wins Re-Election, Extends 43-Year Rule in Cameroon
Cameroon’s Constitutional Council on Monday declared 92-year-old President Paul Biya winner of the country’s presidential election.
