Pope Leo XIV appoints Nigerian priest Edward Daniang Daleng as vice regent of the Papal Household, a top Vatican post.
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Nigerian priest, Rev. Fr. Edward Daniang Daleng, as vice regent of the Prefecture of the Papal Household — the second-highest position in the Vatican office responsible for papal audiences and ceremonies.
The prefecture manages preparations for papal events, meetings with the College of Cardinals and the Roman Curia, and the Pope’s visits outside the Apostolic Palace.
Daleng, a member of the Order of St. Augustine, previously served as general councilor and procurator general of the order, overseeing its relations with the Holy See. Ordained in 2005, he earned a doctorate in moral theology from the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy in 2012.
He first met Pope Leo in 2001 during a visit to Nigeria by then-Augustinian leader Robert Prevost. Reflecting on their long relationship, Daleng said, “Something that struck me was his simplicity, his humility. That is how he was, how he is.”
