Nigeria’s inflation rate eased to 21.88% in July 2025, 0.34 percentage points lower than in June, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Nigeria’s headline inflation rate fell to 21.88% in July 2025, representing a 0.34 percentage point drop from June’s rate, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Friday. The agency explained that the year-on-year rate was 11.52 percentage points lower than the 33.40% recorded in July 2024.
On a month-on-month basis, headline inflation rose to 1.99%, 0.31 points higher than in June, indicating faster price increases within the month. Food inflation stood at 22.74% year-on-year, down from 39.53% in July 2024, largely due to base-year changes.
Despite the slowdown, the NBS said key contributors to inflation included food and non-alcoholic beverages (8.75%), restaurants and accommodation (2.83%), transport (2.33%) and housing-related costs (1.84%).
Food inflation remained highest in Borno (55.56%), Osun (29.10%), and Ebonyi (29.06%), while Katsina (6.61%), Adamawa (9.90%), and Zamfara (14.72%) saw the slowest annual increases.
“This means the rate of increase in the average price level was higher in July 2025 than in June 2025,” the NBS noted.
