Presidential candidate Peter Obi has blamed Nigeria’s economic decline and rising poverty on decades of poor political leadership. Speaking at Johns Hopkins University, Obi compared Nigeria to China, Indonesia, and Vietnam, noting that while these nations progressed, Nigeria regressed. “The failure of a nation depends largely on its Political Leadership,” he said, stressing that competent leadership drives development.

Labour Party’s Peter Obi revealed Nigeria’s poverty crisis surpasses that of China, Indonesia, and Vietnam combined. Citing Human Development Index data, he said Nigeria fell to “low category” while others advanced. “In 1990, these nations were at par…35 years later, Nigeria has declined,” Obi stated. He urged compassionate leadership to reverse the trend.
